Adopt a state WikiFoia page

Page history last edited by Anonymous 2 yrs ago

Please consider adopting the WikiFOIA page for your state.

If you adopt your state's WikiFOIA page, we'd ask you to occasionally scan--once every two weeks or so--the blogs and news media in your state to see what the new developments are in your state's open records landscape.

As you do this, from time-to-time you will find articles and blog posts about subjects such as:

  • A citizen in your state who is filing open records requests

  • A recent court decision about an open records lawsuit

  • News articles about Freedom of Information audits or events, such as changes that someone has proposed to the open records laws in your state.

  • Copies of court briefings or filings in open records lawsuits

Once you find the stories or blogs, please just add links to them on your state's page along with whatever description you'd like to give.

Over time, this will grow into a very valuable library of information for those who come after you.

A state can be adopted by more than one person.

Being a page adopter

If you adopt a state, please feel free to introduce yourself on your state's WikiFOIA webpage. If you would welcome emails from other FOIAers in your state who are looking for a contact or for some help, or who can give you some information, please feel free to say you're open to getting emails and include your email address.

How do I find stories and links about open records in my state?

Probably the easiest way is to conduct an occasional Google News and Google Blog search.

To do a Google News search, go to this link and play around with entering a few different search terms, such as "open records" and the name of your state, FOIA and the name of your state, "Freedom of informaton" and the name of your state, etc.

To do a Google Blog search, go to this link and play around with similar search words.
